Color Block // Black Magic, White Spells, High Illusion

If you wanna get technical, black is the absence of color and white is all the colors. But looking at 'color' blocks, these items drew me in because they work real well together. The stark contrast is cool.

Once again, covering fashion, accessories, and literature.
A few months back I bought David Byrne's How Music Works. It's next up on my reading list after I finish my current book. I love David Byrne and his awkward quirky work, so I'm real excited to read it soon.
Before moving I decided I wanted to buy a new iPhone case, as I was on a kick with new. Something as trivial as a new phone case can really give a fresh feeling. I bought it from Gypsy Warrior.
As for accessories, I created the black and white chevron bead bracelet for myself a few years ago. Being that I don't wear many bracelets/wristbands anymore, I put it up for sale in my Etsy shop.

My last week at my old job, I made up a shirt for myself with a pattern I made. I used a plain black shirt and cut everything out in white vinyl. Took quite a bit of time being that it was an all over pattern, but the end result came out real cool. It's sparking new ideas for future projects.

Back in September I also treated myself to a new pair of Vans. I'm all about finally having a plain black pair of sneakers, although they haven't been the best in the rain (not only because they're canvas) because they tend to squeak real bad. I've been told that goes away eventually.

So that's this color block for black and white. The shirt also made an appearance on Halloween, so some of these items are somewhat magical/witchy.

Color Block // A Study In Forestry

I'm kinda digging the idea of doing some color block posts. I enjoy gathering same color objects including clothing that I fixed up. I can talk about colors all day. I JUST LOVE COLORS DAMMIT.
They'll be occasional, random, and so far all have been unintentional.

This forest green block came accidentally when I bought new headphones that matched my laptop case to a T. A few weeks ago my earbuds stopped working. No surprise there; they never seem to last long. I had borrowed earbuds from my brother, the standard Apple buds. The worst. Earbuds never seem to sit in my ears comfortably and always fall out. I decided to give in and buy headphones. I browsed for snazzy ones more on the cheap side, and had ordered Urbanears in clover. It's been two weeks. So far so great!

Seeing those two match made me think, COLOR BLOCK. I remembered my forest green long sleeve that I decorated. It's not as saturated, but matched my Y.R.U. boots pretty perfect.

I've been on a major green kick lately. When I browsed for headphones, I for the life of me couldn't decide on a color. Didn't want anything too light/bright because it would contrast way too much with my dark hair. Didn't want anything too dark/black because lack of color is no fun. The clover I thought was a good middle for me.
And it makes me want to dye my hair green again. We'll see about that.

Bottom line: green is great.

Color Block // Surf The Mermaid Wave

Lately I've had a lot on my mind such as packing of course. There was so much I wanted to get done before the packing officially went into effect, but it turns out things didn't work my way so well. I've been working too much. So the next month or two maybe a little bit of a ghost town until I get comfortable in my new environment. I have to say though, I have quite a list of projects I can't wait to start and post about!

In the meantime, I've been all about color blocks lately. And I have been all about sea foam green.
The past year I found that I developed this infatuation with the ocean and sea life. I'm not a big beach person, and sometimes sea creatures freak me out, but theres something about sea life and metaphors of everything sea related that really connects with me. The vintage deep sea diver, vintage bathing suits, the colors of the sea including coral and the creatures - it's all just so fascinating. I love music that also resonates sea things. I find that Interpol and Gorillaz do such a great job at grabbing my attention with their sea metaphors and dark beachy sounds, as well as The Raveonettes with their cool shoegaze surf rock-ness.

With that being said, I was excited to put together this seafoam color block post, gathering a nice mix of fashion, music, and literature.
It started when I found these seafoam green shirts at work. For a while I questioned what to do with the shirts, and then inspiration hit me.

I found this water photo on Tumblr (Note: this photo isn't mine, I just have no idea who to credit!). It kinda sparked something in me, in which I browsed through my fabric scraps and pulled out a bunch of greenish colors. I arranged them to create a cool ombre effect.

The seafoam crave continued after I bought this Mermaid book and found an OPI nail polish matches my book exactly (OPI My Dogsled Is A Hybrid). These two aren't exactly of the seafoam green nature, but the colors are sorta close and it fit this sea theme very well.

Aside from those, the new Raveonettes limited edition vinyl is super cool. I posted about it once before here.
About these shirts though, I plan on doing more like this with different colors too. Its a simple gradient shirt that looks real cool.
